Book Looks: Queens of Geek – Jen Wilde

Title: Queens of Geek (2017)
Author: Jen Wilde
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, LGBTQIA+
Description:

When BFFs Charlie, Taylor and Jamie go to SupaCon, they know it’s going to be a blast. What they don’t expect is for it to change their lives forever.

Charlie likes to stand out. SupaCon is her chance to show fans she’s over her public breakup with co-star, Jason Ryan. When Alyssa Huntington arrives as a surprise guest, it seems Charlie’s long-time crush on her isn’t as one-sided as she thought.

While Charlie dodges questions about her personal life, Taylor starts asking questions about her own.

Taylor likes to blend in. Her brain is wired differently, making her fear change. And there’s one thing in her life she knows will never change: her friendship with Jamie—no matter how much she may secretly want it to. But when she hears about the Queen Firestone SupaFan Contest, she starts to rethink her rules on playing it safe.

Read an excerpt…

“This is it, you guys,” I say as we approach. “Everything we’ve always dreamed about. This is our Holy Grail.”

Charlie, Jamie and I stand before it side by side, tears in our eyes as we admire its indescribable beauty.

“Our Disneyland,” Charlie adds, her pink hair blowing slightly in the warm breeze.

Jamie nods as a wide smile spreads across his face. “Our Graceland. I can’t believe we’re actually here.”

We each take in a deep breath.

“Are we truly worthy of so much awesome?” I ask.

Charlie takes a brave step forward. “Yes. We are.”

When we say it, it’s a whisper, like the name itself is to be cherished. “SupaCon.”

  1. I just can’t help noticing the unicorn phone cover LOL!!! On a different note…love that clutch, I think I would totally carry that!

I’ve def not read the book, but the fan convention setting and that bright pink cover…I might be tempted lol!

    • I love the clutch too! I could also see myself actually having it, though I don’t usually carry around clutches…

LOL. It’s a YA book – not sure if you like those? I don’t think I’ve seen you read anything YA (at least recently). 😂

      • Last YA I read was I Hunt Killers ny Barry Lyga 😊 I mostly read Fantasy for YA 😁 I’m not sure why I don’t read the other subgenres in YA, I used to but just not of late. Perhaps, I’m beginning to feel the age gap with that group 😅 but I can always be surprised like with I Hunt Killers 😉

  2. Hello, can I hire you to be my personal stylist?
I love this look so much, especially that skirt. And the colors! I love it.
I can’t wait to pick up the book either. Everyone seems to be loving it. 🙂

    • Of course you can! For friends it’s free. 😉

Haha, I’m loving the colours as well, though I’m not sure if I could pull off something as bright and bold IRL… but oh well. And I hope you like the book!

  3. This is a brilliant Book Look Reg, so bright and colourful, kind of like the book cover. I love the t-shirt and the phone case because I adore cute-sy things like that, and I love the bag simply because of the colour! 🙂
Also this is the first time I’ve actually read the blurb for this book but oh it sounds amazing. I’ll definitely be adding this to my to-read list! Have you read it yet? What did you think if you have?

    • Thanks, Beth! I’m really into the colours myself – it’s just casual and bold at all the same time.

I’ve actually read it and I enjoyed it quite a lot! It’s got a diverse cast and as far as fandom goes, though I’m not really a con-going sort of person, it was quite fun. I wish there was more fandom, though. 😛
