I was supposed to do a discussion post today but I spent the whole weekend totally swamped and completely forgot to draft up anything remotely articulate, so a tag it is! Thank you to Ari at the Daydreaming Bookworm for tagging me for this one, and also to Kourtni at Kourtni Reads for creating it because I’m now totally saved from having to… er, think. 😂
RULES
- Link back to the tag’s creator (Kourtni Reads).
- Thank and link back to the person who tagged you.
- Answer the questions the best you can. If you don’t use NetGalley, you can substitute other sites or places where you get books!
- Tag a few people to do this too.
AUTO-APPROVED: Who’s one author whose books you automatically want to read, regardless of what they’re about?
Just one? I’m feeling rebellious, so I’m gonna give you two:
Sarah Dessen is my comfort author and all of her books give me all the warm and fuzzies I could ever need. I realise that she’s quite formulaic if you read a lot of her works one right after the other, but they’re just so nostalgic to me. I picked up a lot of her books as a teen and really loved her writing style and how elegantly she uses symbols and metaphors to convey her messages. 💖
V. E. Schwab is another author whose works I’ll pick up immediately without even reading the blurb. She’s a master world-builder, and I love all of her magic systems and how creative she gets. Her books always start out a little bit slow and there is usually a lot of staging, but it’s always super freakin’ awesome when she finally delivers the punchline.
REQUEST: What makes you want to request a book that you see on NetGalley?
It’s a combination of author, blurb and cover — in that order. If the author is someone whose books I’ve had a great experience with previously, they’ll likely be an insta-check out author, which means that the chances of me requesting the book once it passes my ‘is the blurb interesting enough?’ check. 🙌
FEEDBACK RATIO: Do you review every book you read? If not, how do you decide what books to review?
I don’t review every book I read, but I do rate all of them on Goodreads. I pretty much only review books in line with my blog’s genre (i.e. Young Adult, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Contemporary), though I do read stuff like general non-fiction or memoirs that don’t make it here… and then there are books that I’ve basically skimmed through that I usually leave off my shelves, just because it doesn’t feel fair to rate them when I’ve basically read only 70% of the words in them. 🙈
BADGES: If you could create your own badge to display on your blog, what would it be for?
OH GOD. Hardest question ever! Instead of a badge I own, how about a badge that I’d like to eventually get? Maybe a Critical Reviewer badge? I don’t think I’m that stingy with ratings (I think… though OK, my Goodreads average is only 3.12), but I do like to look at books critically and consider all, if not most, aspects of it. Admittedly, though, sometimes I do get a bad case of the ~feels~ and throw all critical thought out of the window. 🍃
WISH FOR IT: What’s one book that you are absolutely dying to read?
I’ve got so many, but the one that comes to mind right now is Ryan Graudin’s Blood for Blood, mostly because it’s releasing preeeetty soon and Wolf by Wolf, the prequel, BLEW me away. I just can’t wait, and I hope it’ll be super duper amazing. 😍
2016 NETGALLEY CHALLENGE: What was the last book that you received as an ARC that you reviewed? If you’ve never received an ARC, what’s the last book you reviewed?
Last book I received that I reviewed was Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake, although I was sent the finished copy instead of the ARC. You can find my review here. I also just received an ARC of Heartless by Marissa Meyer and intend to get started on it preeeetty damn soon. Hopefully it lives up to expectations! 🎉

Thanks for reading, guys! 💕
Thanks for doing the tag!! I loved reading your answers. Your badge is perfect haha Creative and it fits you pretty well, I think 😉 I’ve heard that Blood for Blood was just as good, if not better than, Wolf by Wolf. I really need to read both of those books! I just got an ARC of Heartless too, on NetGalley. I was shocked that I got it because I really was not expecting it haha I’m so excited to dive into it though!

Thanks for creating the tag! And thanks, that’s the goal. 💖
I’m suuuper excited for Blood for Blood. Wolf by Wolf was so amazing from start to finish, and early reviews for BFB have been more positive than not, so I have high expectations for it. I also can’t wait to see what you think of Heartless! I’m SO excited to read it. 😊

Sarah Dessen has become one of my favorite authors, as I loved Just Listen and Saint Anything. I hope to read more of her novels, soon; Lock and Key is on my autumn TBR! I’m sooo jealous that you received an ARC of Heartless – I’m dying to read that one! I hope it lives up to your expectations (unlike Three Dark Crowns).

I’m so glad to hear that! Lock and Key is actually my second favourite of hers (Just Listen being my first), and I LOVE IT. And thank you, I hope so too. Judging by everyone’s reactions about Heartless so far though, I suspect I have nothing to worry about. 😂

Well…if you’re in the mood to recommend me some, which one should I read next? Like, your ultimate favorite one? (I only read The Truth About Forever, so far)

Definitely Just Listen! It’s my favourite book of Dessen and probably one of my favourite books of all time too. 💖

Okay so I just added that one to my goodreads TBR, and…whenever I will be able to order books again, I’ll make sure to take that one 😀 Thank you!!

Loved reading this!! I really need to read Wolf By Wolf and more of V.E. Schwab’s books because ADSOM was everything. Super jealous that you have a Heartless ARC too, haha. That’s so cool! I hope you love it!! I emailed Pan Macmillan the other day, but I feel like I could have gotten in too late haha. We’ll see 🙈
And thanks for the tag! ♥

Thanks, Lauren! Yeah, they’re doing a Heartless Blog Tour so they sent out like a call out for interest. Hopefully they still have some copies and they’ll send you one – the package is so pretty. 💖

My goodreads average rating is only slightly higher than yours haha! I agree, Sarah’s writing is pretty formulaic, but they always managed to give that warm fuzzy feelings. And V.E Schwab books do need a lot of set up, but she never fails to deliver! Great answers Reg!

Thanks, Tasya! I’m super glad to hear that you agree, and that I’m not the only one with a relatively low Goodreads rating. 😂

I love tags for the same reason, haha. Sometimes I just can’t muster the energy to think but I feel like blogging. In this case, tags are perfect!
My average ratio is 3.32, what does that say about me? haha! I haven’t read anything from Sarah Dessen, is there a book I should start with?

Exactly! I should’ve planned my week better but I didn’t manage to and tags are a great way to just, well, not think but do.
My favourite Sarah Dessen book (and probably one of my all-time favourite books) is Just Listen. It’s one of her earliest works, but it’s VERY GOOD. I really hope you read it – I’m always on this personal campaign to get more people to read her books. 😂

I’ll add it to my list right away!! 😀 I’m the same with my favorites, haha. We just can’t help it!

Thanks so much for the tag Reg! I haven’t seen this one before but I can’t wait to get started on it!
V.E. Schwab is definitely my auto-buy author as well, and I think by this point I’m pretty much guaranteed to love everything she releases as well.
Also I can’t wait for Blood for Blood either, but at least it’s not long to go until it’s release now, and the same for Heartless. Wow its great you managed to get an ARC, I can’t wait to see what you think of it!
Thanks again for the tag, I loved reading your answers! 😀

Yep, thankfully it’s not too long before we can read Blood for Blood. Early reviews have been good but I’m not sure if the series is a duology or a trilogy or more? Haven’t heard of a third book planned. 🤔
LikeLiked by 1 person
I haven’t actually seen any reviews for it, and I probably won’t read too many before I’ve read the book myself either. I do think it’s a duology, there’s nothing about a third book and I do think I remember reading somewhere it was just the two of them. 🙂

That’s a relief! I hope that makes the story tighter – I feel like sometimes in a series the books in the middle just serve as kind of a bridge between the beginning and the end. 😂

Yeah I know what you mean, there are trilogies that keep the same pace and sense of action throughout but at the same time there are more I think where the middle book is a major let down!
