Title: Scarlett Epstein Hates It Here (2016)
Author: Anna Breslaw
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary

Meet Scarlett Epstein, BNF (Big Name Fan) in her online community of fanfiction writers, world-class nobody at Melville High. Her best (read: only) IRL friends are Avery, a painfully shy and annoyingly attractive bookworm, and Ruth, her pot-smoking, possibly insane seventy-three-year-old neighbor.

When Scarlett’s beloved TV show is canceled and her longtime crush, Gideon, is sucked out of her orbit and into the dark and distant world of Populars, Scarlett turns to the fanfic message boards for comfort. This time, though, her subjects aren’t the swoon-worthy stars of her fave series—they’re the real-life kids from her high school. Scarlett never considers what might happen if they were to find out what she truly thinks about them…until a dramatic series of events exposes a very different reality than Scarlett’s stories, forever transforming her approach to relationships—both online and off. Read the first lines…

This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. After five years, six seasons, ten Emmy nominations, and countless amazing experiences on and off the set with the family I’ve made here, the Lycanthrope High story has come to its conclusion. While I have no control over the decision, I could not be more proud of the extraordinary talent both in front of and behind the cameras who have collectively made this show what it is.

Write to the network if you want, but you know they’re just a bunch of old white dudes in suits, right? All I’m gonna say is that they may or may not have almost fired me for making Connor Korean-American.

But look. You know that from the very beginning, I’ve been thinking about you guys—the superfans, the cosplayers, the people who wrote letters to me saying that Luke’s death helped them with their own grief, or that Gillian and Reginald inspired them to end their abusive relationship, or that Marissa and Connor were the first complex main characters who looked like them that they’d seen on one of their favorite shows. That stuff means more to me than any critic’s opinion.

Have you read this book yet? I’M SUPER EXCITED.

  1. Ever since I saw this book in your “Top Ten Books Every Internet Geek Should Read” post, I’ve been wanting to read it! It sounds really entertaining, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what direction the book goes in. And of course, I love this book look! It goes perfectly with the book, and It’s totally an outfit that I would wear, haha 😛

  2. This look is basically me in a nutshell, well minus the glasses haha. My go-to look is basically a nice pair of jeans and a comfy top and green is definitely a favourite of mine. This book definitely sounds like my cup of tea and I like seeing how she deals between the clashing of her online life with her offline one. 😀

  3. This could literally be one of the outfits I have in my wardrobe; the jumper looks so cozy I kind of want it just because of that, also I love the colour 😀
I actually added this book to my to-read list a while back (I discovered it after actually reading some of the contemporay YA books on my to-read list) I haven’t started it yet but it sounds really good so I can’t wait to actually pick it up.

  4. This is my very first Book Looks post I have seen published on your blog Reg! I love the idea SO SO MUCH ❤ The sweater looks so cozy and I just want to cuddle in it while I read 🙂 As for the book, I haven't seen it around much but I will for sure add it to my TBR!

  5. I feel like I keep saying the same thing over and over again with your look-posts, but I LOVE THEM. I always want to have all the clothes no matter if they are casual or fancy. I JUST WANT THEM!
