Title: The Rest of Us Just Live Here (2015)
Author: Patrick Ness
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Fantasy
Description: What if you aren’t the Chosen One?

The one who’s supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death?

What if you’re like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school. Again.

Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week’s end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.

Even if your best friend is worshipped by mountain lions.

Award-winning writer Patrick Ness’s bold and irreverent novel powerfully reminds us that there are many different types of remarkable.

Review coming up soon! 🙂

        • I’m in Melbourne! I kind of just assume most people are in the US until proven otherwise, tbh. :p

Aaaaand I just stalked your profile and saw that you’re doing a PhD. That’s super exciting (and terrifying, at least for me)! How’s that going?

          • You’d be surprised by how many people are not in the US. HAHA. I think most of my friends from the blogosphere are from the Philippines, but I also have friends from European countries, which is super cool!

The PhD life is great! I love it. I would love it more if my research data would turn out the way I want it to… but it’s research so it’s never what I expect it to be.

            • You’re probably right, I’ve definitely noticed bloggers from the Philippines as well! It’s pretty damn amazing. How long have you been blogging? :p

So I’ve heard. My cousin is a research assistant and she’s also considering doing a PhD, but is a bit deterred by how long that normally takes. What’s your topic on?

              • I’ve had a personal blog since 2009 but I only started book blogging in mid-June 🙂

I was an RA during my undergrad and I considered just continuing to do that after graduation but if I’m going to do somebody else’s research, I might as well do my own research. Plus 3-4 years really flies by quickly when you’re doing a PhD! This year has gone by so quickly for me.

My research is on attentional biases and how we can get people to overcome the automatic capture of attention by emotional stimuli, through featural properties in the visual scene. That probably makes no sense 😀
